Layout, hours and size

Four settings in Customize decide the shape of the page rather than its colour: how the week is laid out, which hours its grid starts and ends on, how large entries read, and (at a desk) the typeface of the headings and the width of the page.

Layout: Categories, Rows or Time

The three-way switch at the top of the week at a desk lives here too, so a phone can set it even though it has no seven-column week to show for it. For what each one reads like, see Week categories and Week time.

Hours: where the clock opens

Set Layout to Time and an Hours group appears underneath, stepping the start and end of the grid to where your own day runs. It sets where the grid starts and ends, not what it shows: an event before your start time is still drawn.

Item size: how large entries read

A− and A+ step how large an entry or a priority reads, everywhere they appear. It's about reading comfortably on whichever screen you are holding rather than about how the page looks.

Titles, Full width and Quiet weekends

At your desk

Three settings that only mean anything at a desk. Titles switches every heading between a serif and a sans face. Full width lets the page spend the whole monitor instead of sitting in a column. Quiet weekends sets Saturday and Sunday back a shade in the week grid.

I set Layout to Time from my phone. Did that do anything?

Not to what you see there: a phone reads one day at a time through its own Day, Time and Week tabs. What it changed is waiting at a desk: open the week there and it opens in Time. Layout belongs to the account, not the device.

Do these follow me to another device?

Yes, all of them, because they belong to your account. Titles, Full width and Quiet weekends simply have nothing to do on a phone.

I cannot find Hours in Customize.

It only appears with Layout set to Time. There is no hour grid to bound otherwise.
